In this inspiring episode, we sit down with Azul Veleta, an AVID student from Capital High School, as she shares her journey from overcoming academic challenges to becoming a featured speaker at the 2026 AVID Summer Institute.
Azul shares a heartfelt memory from childhood, when she would line up her stuffed animals and turn her room into a classroom. Through practicing reading and writing in both English and Spanish, she was building confidence, creativity, and resilience. What felt like imaginative play at the time became the foundation for the strong communication skills and determination she carries with her today.
Through AVID, supportive educators, and her own perseverance, Azul discovered that working toward your goals, even in small, creative ways, can put you on a path to success you never imagined.
Her story is a powerful reminder that confidence is built over time, challenges can become strengths, and every student has the potential to find their voice.
